Marshal's bags APTransco contract
Marshal's Power and Telecom (MPTEL), the flagship company
of Marshals' Group, has bagged a contract from the APTransco
for supplying ACSR Moose Conductor. Announcing this at a press
conference, MPTL director Dumenil said the first phase of
the contract is valued at Rs 22 crore. He said the project
would be funded by Power Finance Corporation, IDBI, Sidbi
and APTransco. He also unveiled the Chennai-based company
plans to diversify into a variety sectors, including aluminium
industry.

Marshals'
bags Rs 22-cr order from Transco
Chennai-based Marshals Power and Telecom (MPTEL), the flagship
company of Marshals' Group has bagged the AP Transco's contract
for supplying ASCR Moose Conductor amid stiff competition,
of which the first phase is valued at Rs 22 crore. The contract
is to be executed in a period of six months starting May 15,
2001.
The contract includes manufacturing, testing and delivery
of 900 kms of specified ASCR Moose conductor. The project
will be funded by PFC, IDBI, Sidbi and AP Transco.
MPTEL has its production facility at Pondicherry. The main
streams of activities in the power sector include transmission
line material manufacturing, EPC contracts and transmission
and distribution projects.
The group was formally incorporated in the 80s and is a non-traded,
widely held public limited company. MPT also caters to high
voltage power transmission and distribution under multilateral
funding by World Bank and ADB.

APTransco
joint venture : Marshal's Power in talks with OFC major
MARSHALS' Power and Telecom (MPTEL), the flagship company
of the Chennai-based Rs 400 crore Marshals' Group, has initiated
negotiations with the Canadian optical fibre giant, Sasketel,
and Andhra Pradesh Transmission Corporation (APTransco) for
floating a joint venture company for meeting the optical fibre
needs of APTransco.
Speaking to newspersons on Thursday, the MPTEL President,
Mr Adelwert S. Dumenil, said that the negotiations for the
joint venture were at an advanced stage, with MPTEL participating
as third partner in the venture company.
While Sasketel would extend the technical know-how, the venture
company would focus on sourcing and laying optical fibre cables.
The minimum capital expenditure for the venture is expected
to be around Rs 250 crore, and the equity holding pattern
would be finalised later.
MPTEL recently bagged a contract worth Rs 22 crore from APTRANSCO
for supplying ACSR (Aluminium Conductor Steel Reinforced)
moose conductors. While the overall scope of the contract
consists of supply of 1,900 km of ACSR moose conductors, the
first phase includes manufacturing, testing and delivery of
900 km of conductors.
The contract has to be executed within a period of six months
starting from May 15, the date of issue of letter of intent
(LoI) in favour of MPTEL, Mr Dumenil said. Marshals' has a
8,000-km capacity conductor facility at Pondicherry for the
manufacture of up to 61 strands.
While the plant and machinery was designed by Canadian experts,
the project was funded by the Power Finance Coporation, IDBI,
SIDBI, HUNDI and APTransco.
